Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (85% lean)
1 ⅔ cups water or beef broth
2 tablespoons homemade or store-bought taco seasoning
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon tomato powder (or tomato paste)
½ teaspoon dark cocoa powder (optional)
Salt to taste
Instructions
In a bowl, mix water, taco seasoning, cornstarch, tomato powder, and cocoa powder (if using).
Add the ground beef and mix until evenly coated.
Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the seasoned beef mixture and cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spoon.
Once browned, reduce heat and simmer for another 5–10 minutes until the liquid thickens and coats the meat.
Stir occasionally. Adjust seasoning or consistency with more water if needed.
Remove from heat and serve in tacos, burritos, or over nachos.
Notes
Use low-sodium broth or seasoning for a healthier version.
Ground turkey or plant-based meat substitutes work well as alternatives.
Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for 2–3 months.
